Getting started
What GiftCardMall does and what you need before you start.
What kind of card does this site check?
Only GiftCardMall prepaid cards. If your card has the GiftCardMall brand on the front and a 16-digit number, an expiration date, and a CVV, the form above will look up the balance. Cards from other prepaid programs are not supported here.
How long does a balance lookup actually take?
On a healthy connection, the response usually lands between 300 and 800 milliseconds. The number you see is pulled live from the issuing system at the moment you submit — there is no caching layer in front of it.
Do I need to create an account or download an app?
No. GiftCardMall is intentionally a one-shot tool: open the page, submit the form, read the number. There is no signup, no app, no email confirmation, and no upsell at the end.
Can I use GiftCardMall from a phone, a tablet, or an in-store kiosk?
Yes — the form is responsive and works in any modern mobile browser. We test on iOS Safari, Android Chrome, and Samsung Internet on every release. The minimum supported screen width is 320 pixels.
Reading your card
Help locating the digits we ask for on the front and back of your GiftCardMall card.
Where exactly is the 16-digit card number printed?
On the front of your GiftCardMall card, embossed or printed across the middle in four groups of four digits. On some thinner card stock the number is moved to the back — if you don't see it on the front, flip the card over and look above the magnetic stripe.
What is a CVV and which side of the card is it on?
The CVV is the three-digit security code printed on the signature panel on the back of the card, usually after the last four digits of the card number. The form accepts three- or four-digit codes.
My card shows two dates. Which one is the expiration?
Use the date labeled "Valid Thru," "Exp," or "Expires." Some cards also print a "Good Through" date on the front and a separate manufacturing or activation date — those are not the expiration.
What if the printing on my card has worn off?
If the digits are unreadable, this site can't help — the issuer can. Call the customer service number on the back of the card; if that has worn off too, the original receipt or paperwork that came with the card should have the contact information you need.
Security & privacy
What we do with your card details and what we don't.
Is the connection between my browser and GiftCardMall encrypted?
Every request is served over HTTPS using TLS 1.3. The site is configured to refuse plain-HTTP connections entirely — there is no fallback to an insecure mode.
Can someone on the same Wi-Fi network see my card number?
No. Because the request is encrypted end-to-end with TLS, intermediaries on your network — including the Wi-Fi access point — only see that you're talking to our domain, not the contents of the form.
After my balance loads, what happens to the card details I typed?
They are forwarded for the lookup, the response is rendered in your browser, and the values are dropped from server memory. We do not write them to logs, databases, or third-party services.
Do you sell or share my information with advertisers?
No. We do not run ad-tech tracking, we do not enrich a user profile, and we do not sell, rent, or share your card data or browsing data with third parties for marketing.
Will checking my balance show up on my card statement?
No. A balance lookup is read-only and does not generate a transaction. You won't see a $0 authorization, a placeholder line item, or any other entry on your statement from using GiftCardMall.
When something goes wrong
The errors we see most often and how to clear them.
I'm getting an "invalid card" message but I'm sure the digits are right.
Three things usually fix this: confirm the expiration is in MM/YY format (a single-digit month like "3/27" gets rejected), confirm there are no spaces inside the CVV field, and double-check the leading digit of the card number — a 4 vs. 5 swap is common when typing fast.
The balance I see is lower than what I expect.
Common reasons: the card was used for a recent transaction that hasn't fully cleared yet (pre-authorizations can hold funds for up to 7 days), a monthly maintenance fee was deducted, or an activation fee was taken out at first use. The transaction list below the balance usually explains the difference.
The page won't load — is GiftCardMall down?
If the form itself loads but submission hangs, we may be experiencing a slow response from the issuer. Try again in 30 seconds. If the entire page won't load, check status.mygift-giftcardmallai.com for the current incident page.
My brand-new card is showing a $0 balance.
Some retailers don't activate the card automatically at the register. If your card was bought in the last 24 hours, give it a full day before assuming there is a problem — and if it still shows $0, contact the retailer with your receipt.
Spending your card
Where GiftCardMall cards work — and where they don't.
Can I use my GiftCardMall card at a gas pump?
It depends on the pump. Pumps that pre-authorize a flat amount (usually $100 or $125) will reject a prepaid card with a smaller balance. Pay inside at the counter and tell the cashier the exact dollar amount to charge — that always works.
Will it work for hotels, rental cars, or other deposits?
Generally no. Hotels and rental car companies place holds — sometimes hundreds of dollars — that exceed the typical card balance, and many of them only accept reloadable credit/debit cards for that reason. Use a regular card for the deposit and your GiftCardMall card for incidentals.
What if my total is higher than what's left on the card?
You'll need a split-tender transaction: tell the cashier the exact amount to put on the GiftCardMall card, then pay the rest with another method. Most modern point-of-sale systems handle this; some self-checkout kiosks don't, in which case you may need to switch to a staffed lane.
Can I use my card while traveling internationally?
GiftCardMall cards are typically restricted to US-based merchants and may decline at foreign points of sale. Check the cardholder agreement that came with your card — if international use isn't explicitly enabled, plan to spend the balance before you leave.
Can I take cash out of an ATM with my card?
Most prepaid gift cards do not allow ATM withdrawals — they're not issued with PINs and they're not classified as debit. Check the back of your specific card or the cardholder agreement for ATM eligibility.
Card lifecycle
Activation, fees, expiration, and what to do if a card goes missing.
Does my GiftCardMall card expire?
Under federal law (the CARD Act), the funds on a prepaid card cannot expire for at least five years from the date the card is loaded. The card itself may show an earlier date — if it does, the issuer is required to send you a replacement at no charge.
Will my balance shrink over time even if I don't use the card?
Some prepaid cards charge a monthly inactivity fee, but only after 12 consecutive months of no activity, and the fee amount has to be disclosed on the packaging. Using the card once — even a small purchase — resets that clock.
I lost my card. Is the money gone?
Not necessarily. Call the customer service number that came with your card as soon as you realize it's missing. If you have the original receipt or the card number written down, the issuer can usually block the lost card and reissue a replacement (sometimes for a small fee). Without proof of purchase, recovery is much harder.
Can I move my card balance into my bank account?
Direct transfers from a prepaid card to a bank account aren't supported. The closest workaround is to use the card to buy something refundable, return the item to the same store, and ask for the refund to your bank-issued debit or credit card — but stores aren't required to do that and many won't.
